Baffles are used primarily as sound absorbers in potentially noisy environments such as gymnasiums, swimming pools, pump rooms, and industrial fabrication work areas. They also are suitable for finished panels in offices, conference rooms, and ceiling installations.
Alpro Baffles manufactured in aluminum may also be used in high humidity areas such as swimming pools or outside to control sound in areas such as a performing arts amphitheater.
When Baffles or Panels are used outside for sound absorption, the absorbing material must be encapsulated in polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) film to avoid damage from UV as well as temperature changes. In an interior environment, except for swimming pools, it is recommended that a perforated steel panel be employed for resistance to potential damage.
Acoustical metal corrugated baffles are modular units designed for noise control in industrial and architectural environments.
These baffles consist of a metal frame surrounding a perforated metal skin, with an encapsulated acoustical energy absorbing material such as fiber glass. The perforated metal skin allows sound waves to enter the absorbing material where a portion is transformed from sound energy to other forms of energy.
Depending on the thickness, density and the type of material used to encapsulate sound absorbing material installed behind the Alpro panel, sound absorption will vary depending on the mounting up to a perfect absorption of NRC = 1.0 or 1.0 sabin/square foot. Sound absorptive material is furnished as a part of the total system to assure predictable results based upon extensive product testing.
The perforated metal facing (1/8" diameter holes on 21/64" staggered centers) is fabricated from galvanized steel in thickness of 22, 24, or 26 gauge. Standard stucco-embossed aluminum is available in .020" and .032" thickness. Heavier materials may be available upon request for specific applications.
Frames
Frames consist of a concealed or semi-concealed U-Channel aluminum as a standard. Standard baffle frames accept a 2" thick sound absorber. Special panels may be manufactured up to 6" thick.
Alpro offers three types of standard mounting methods for Metal Baffles. Baffles can be mounted to the walls of the treated space, suspended from the ceiling structure vertically or horizontally, or separately to create a "cloud" effect.
Z Clips Flush to wall surface or offset. Offset mounts can be 1", 2", or 4" to improve the acoustical performance.
Eyebolts Factory installed to frame to allow hanging from the ceiling structure with braided wire furnished by the installing contractor.
